Hi,
If you're going on holiday this summer, have a look at the language translation cards on the Coeliac City website. I recently went to Cyprus and took the Greek card out with me, gave me peace of mind when I was eating out and best of all you can print them off for FREE!
Let me know if you use one and if it was helpful.

Hello,
I'm currently on a gluten-free diet, in order to see whether I do have CD. I'm going on holiday to France (Provence) on Saturday, so just wondering if anyone has any tips or experiences they'd like to share about eating out in France!
To complicate matters further, I'm also vegetarian ... from what I remember, France wasn't very good at vegetarianism when I was last there .... so just curious as to how they'll cope with me this time!! We're going self-catering so will probably cook for ourselves most of the time, but would be nice to go out at least once
Many thanks p.s. I have printed off the french eating out card too

Hi Cruton,
How did you get on in France, were they gluten-free savvy? Did you have lots of nice food?
Hope the translation card helped.

I've just come back from Lanzarote, have got some recommendations of where to eat, do you have page for overseas recommendations of where to eat? PS If you got the airport, go to departures and the cafe on the left near checkin desk 1 has a gluten free stand! I'd gone for a week with no cakes but on leaving I bought and devoured some mini muffins, they also had bread rolls (proceli make).

HI, I live in France and find that when eating out here, its best to ask if something has gluten, farrine (flour) or ble (Wheat). In general the french are quite aware of the issues, but not always aware of what has and has not got gluten in. Also most restaurants will pepare something for you if you ask for a certain dish without the beglutened element.
It does pay to speak (or at least try) and speak French, nothing to do with being gulten free but in general you will get a much freiendlier reception and people will bend over backwards for you if you at least try and speak French. Don't get cought with sauces and soups, most things that are 'industriel' will have gluten, if you go to small family type restaurants they usually make everything in house and so can tell you exactly whats in it. Also Scharr is a great brand for glutne free stuff, available in most 'grand surface' or Hypermarche here.
Bye
